About the Game

Made for the SA Game Jam 2024 under the theme Midnight Staircase, Midnight Gambit is a high-stakes game of chance and strategy.

You wager souls to climb a mysterious staircase. Every door could lead you higher… or drag you further down. The further you climb, the more doors appear, but only one will take you upward.

Do you play it safe, or risk everything on bigger bets?

How to Play

• On Level 1, two doors await. Bet your souls to choose how you gamble:

  • 1 soul – Pick a single door, move up or down 1 level.

  • 2 souls – Roll a d4, move up or down that number of levels.

  • 3 souls – Roll a d6, move up or down that number of levels.

• The higher you climb, the more doors appear… but only one leads upward.

• Lose all your souls and the game is over. Reach the top floor to win.
